Rev. Dr. Pruitt was educated at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas, receiving her Bachelor of Arts Degree there. She received the Master of Divinity (M. Div.) degree from Iliff School of Theology in Denver, Colorado. She received a license to preach from the Metropolitan Community Churches in 1976. She received her Doctor of Ministry (D. Min) degree from Claremont School of Theology in Claremont, California. Her doctoral project was entitled “But Thou Shalt Forget the Shame of Thy Youth: a Study of Authoritarianism, Religiosity and Child Sexual Abuse“. She was licensed in the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches in 1976, ordained in 1979 and received Privilege of Call with the United Church of Christ in 2004.
During her Ministry with the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches, she has served as
*Assistant Pastor of Agape MCC in Fort Worth, Texas and MCC of the Rockies in Denver, Colorado
*Senior Pastor of the Metropolitan Community Church in Long Beach, California from 1980-1995.
*Interim Pastor of MCC San Diego
*Interim Pastor of Gentle Shepherd MCC in Phoenix, AZ
*Sole pastor of MCC Family in Christ in Fort Collins, Colorado
*Interim and subsequently Settled Pastor of MCC Rehoboth Beach, Delaware
After pursuing a Clinical Pastoral Education Internship for one year, Rev. Dr. Pruitt moved from Yuma, Arizona to Sussex County, Delaware. She served as a hospice chaplain for five years in Southern Delaware. She left the position of Pastor of Safe Harbor UCC in Sussex County, Delaware on February 28, 2018.
In addition to serving Safe Harbor as above, in September 2013 Dr. Pruitt was elected as “settled pastor” of MCC Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where she completed a three-year term as a UCC Pastor serving in an MCC setting December 31. 2016. MCC Rehoboth dedicated its new facility at 19369 Plantation Road in Rehoboth Beach in September 2013 and continues as a thriving church.
Currently retired from the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community and the United Church of Christ (UCC), Rev. Dr. Pruitt and spouse Joanne are enjoying traveling in their 25’ travel trailer, seeing the US National park system, and puttering around their Santa Fe home.
Rev. Dr. Pruitt is available to perform weddings and Holy Unions (commitment ceremonies), to lecture on her lawsuit with the military, preach, and conduct seminars on healing the inner child.
